Sig. Sindaco,
a nome della Regione Molise saluto la comunità di Monongah e ringrazio i cittadini e gli amministratori di questo piccolo centro del West Virginia per aver saputo preservare la memoria di una delle pagine più dolorose del mondo del lavoro americano di tutti i tempi e tra le più tristi della storia dell’emigrazione di ogni epoca.
Il Molise, minuscola regione del Centro – Sud dell’Italia, pagò un tributo altissimo di vite umane con 87 vittime di cui 36 del solo comune di Duronia in provincia di Campobasso.
Grazie all’opera preziosa del Console Onorario d’Italia di Pittsburgh (PA) Joseph D’Andrea è stato possibile riportare alla luce una vicenda umana di queste proporzioni, coinvolgendo nella ricorrenza del centenario le istituzioni americane e quelle italiane per celebrazioni storiche svoltesi nella vostra cittadina.
Oggi affido ad un giovane molisano, che si è distinto per il proprio impegno nel tenere viva la stage mineraria di Monongah, questo indirizzo di saluto con l’auspicio che l’area collinare in cui riposano i caduti, compresi i resti della zona mineraria, possano essere preservati a futura memoria del ruolo che hanno avuto i minatori, i lavoratori e gli immigrati di tutto il mondo, europei, italiani e molisani nella crescita, prosperità e sviluppo degli Stati Uniti d’America.

Mr Mayor,
in the name of the Region Molise I greet the community of Monongah and I thank the citizens and administrators of this small town in West Virginia for being able to preserve the memory of one of the most painful pages of the American working world of all time and one of the saddest in the history of emigration from every era.
Molise, tiny region of the Center – South Italy, paid a very high tribute of human lives with 87 victims of which 36 of the solo common of Duronia in the province of Campobasso.
Thanks to the precious work of the Honorary Consul of Italy in Pittsburgh (PA) Joseph D’Andrea it has been possible to bring to light a human story of this proportion, involving in the recurrence of the centenary the American and the Italian Institutions to the historical celebrations held in your town.
Today I entrust to a young citizen of Molise, which stood out for its commitment to keep alive the memory of the Slaughter of Monongah Mining, this address of regards with the auspice that the hilly area where the fallen, including the remains of the mining area, can be preserved for future memory of the role that took the miners, workers and immigrants from around the world, European, Italian and from Molise in the growth, development and prosperity of the United States of America.
